Eddie from Ohio (and some enlightening TV talk)

Last night our dear friends Paul and Amy took us to see a new favorite singer/songwritter band -- Eddie from Ohio at a little bar in Covington, KY. They are really from Virginia. It was a blast.

Before I share how much fun this funky little band is, I'll recap part of our conversation at dinner that took place before we trekked upstairs to see the band:

Since returning from SA, I have realized why I can't stand the media business. It only took me two years of being in the middle of it to figure this out. I can't stand the media (especially TV) because they have used the world's most powerful means of communication wrecklessly and without vision. Each and every decision of the media is based on bottom line profit right now (they don't even care about tomorrow's profit -- they will canibalize their future selves for profit TODAY). Some of the decisions, sometimes, are based on driving Nielson Ratings, which theoretically drive profit. But, actually ratings are bogus. They are made up numbers. Hear me Mr. Nielson? Your system is bogus.

I have millions of examples of bad business decisions that I have witnessed first hand that drove profit, but damaged the public. Anyway, because there is no vision (other than to gain more and more profit), we have lost. If somewhere 30 or 40 years ago someone who was in this whole TV/media business would have thought, "what do we want to do with all of this power that will benefit the world?" Then, we would be in a different place now as a society, as a nation, as a world community. It's like someone let a teenager have control of a nuclear weapon. TV is that dangerous. My friend Paul said I should write a book on this topic. I already have several chapters worth of info in my head.

We also celebrated at dinner as we told stories about people we know who's lives and hearts are radically changing around us. I love a good miracle story.

The band was funny, smart, and had amazing voices. I totally encourage you to check them out. We all loved the song "hey little man" that the lead singer wrote for her son, Liam. You will definitely smile listening to their music. Amy and I sure did!

REP,

Ditto on your comment to me. Glad to hear that your stories are progressing and making an impact. My wife and I were discussing SA again last night - what a gift it was to the Americans.
