For a while I have been talking about getting a scooter. We live within 2 miles of just about everything we need to, and I have thought of purchasing a convertible several times. Too expensive, and to be honest, I couldn't find one that I liked more than my car (or one that had a lower payment). So, a scooter seemed like the most fun and cheap option. I found a scooter dealer here in the Queen City, so on Friday afternoon we headed over to Metro Scooter. Right away when we pulled up I saw the one that I had been eyeing on the internet.
The guy at the store greeted us, and took me right to the very one that I was thinking of -- the Stella Buddy. He said it just came in the day before, and it is so easy to ride. So, after looking at all of the choices, I became the fist owner of a Stella Buddy in Cincinnati.

I have had several operating classes, and I am quite the scooter driver. I even drove it to church on Sunday. I parked in the motorcycle parking lot between the pastor's Harley and several other mean looking bikes. That didn't concern me. My scooter is very friendly and has no problem meeting new people.
Strangers just assume that you are friendly if you are on a scooter. They roll down their windows at stop lights just to ask you how you like the scooter. People smile as you pass -- it's not every day you see an orange Buddy. It's fun to be a friendly scooter rider.
Now, I just have one thing to do ... I need to name the scooter. I'll be taking name ideas via comments on the blog. Feel free.

WOW, Rachel. I'm so impressed, and proud. Okay, she must have a name. Here's some ideas.
You could go with Stella. That is a good name and it means "Star." You would be keeping true to its model name.
I also like regular human names for objects. Some I think would be appropriate for an orange scooter include:
Julie
Jasmine
Sally
Susie (or Sooz)
If you name your scooter Stella, I'm going to name my toilet Riley - DB
I am soooo jealous. I have been looking at scooters on ebay and craigslist for the past month or so (since it now costs me over $50 to fill up my tank). I have been introducing the idea to Leigh-- so far, no real reaction. It is hard to buy stuff in seminary because I am on financial aid, classmates have a hard time making ends meet, etc.
But good for you. Wear your helmet! I will think about the name and get back to you. I love you bunches. -Your Big Brother
I like the name Betty. I think old lady names are really good for cars and such. Perhaps Rita, Dorothy, or Bonnie. Evie? Barb?
I think it definitely needs to be female.
All of the names are good suggestions. I have also thought of Julius and Bevo (the University of Texas Mascot).
I forgot to mention that I do have a great helmet and I insist that you may not even sit on the scooter unless you wear the helmet.
The gas mileage is AMAZING ... 150 miles on a tank and a half of gas.
If AP and I can figure out a route to my office he could start taking my car around instead of the truck ... also saving gas.
See, scooters are friendly to the environment, too.
oooh, ooooh. i love Betty and Rita. How about Evie?
I already said Evie, dumb butt.
First, I am also jealous. I had a scooter in high school and loved it. It is what started my love for motorcycles. They are so freeing... wear a helmet though.
What I want to know is why we aren't within driving distance? I want to see you driving with Andrew on the back of that thing by the middle of next week.
Lastly, I thought of the perfect name. Rocko. I think he looks more like a boy than a girl.
First off, I love the scooter. It is very nice and very fun to drive. Second, I will not be caught dead on the back of it with Rachel driving me...talk about a fat guy on a little bike. Third, I like the name Stella in keeping with the model, and b/c it sounds like an old lady. Fourth, I love my wife. So take that...
How about Clementine?
Ooooooh ... I like Clementine ... it is both a person's name and a salute to the orange of the scooter. That's good
I third the name Clementine. It fits all criteria:
1.) Old person's name
2.) Female name
3.) Tribute to the color
(Old person name is my criteria, i guess. I love old names.)
I also like Clementine, but its too long to say. What could you call it for short? Clem? Intine? Not so sure....
