Confession ...

This weekend AP and I stepped WAY outside our comfort zone. Our friend took a revolutionary idea from the book Blue Like Jazz, adapted it, and acted on it last year.

C set up a "confessional tent" at a gay pride festival in her neighborhood. The outside of the tent had a sign that just said "confessional" -- no one knew the purpose of the set up. When people would come in, C confessed (one on one) to members of the gay community that horrible things have been said and done in the name of Christianity to them. She told them that Jesus was about love, and that she was asking them for forgiveness. People were moved and astounded.

AP and I went with her this year. He went on Saturday afternoon and sat in the tent confessing all day. His experiences were very powerful to say the least. Many people were shocked that we were not asking them to come to church, or trying to save their souls, or trying to get into a big theological discussion on homosexuality. We were just there to show love. He has lots and lots of amazing stories -- even miracles that happened for people in the tent.

I went on Sunday afternoon and had the very tiring job of getting people to go into the tent. It was hard, and most people were very hesitant. I had to be SO outgoing, SO friendly, and SO non-threatening, OH YEAH -- and I had to use my gift of funny. The tents were full all afternoon.

It was a great perspective to have. I got to see people go in extremely nervous and come out on the other side totally different. Many times people came out and hugged me and thanked me for having them step out of their comfort zone and go into the tent. The two guys that took the most convincing all day both came out with tears in their eyes. Many told me that it was the most healing experience of their life.

Thank you C, for having the courage to have faith in action ... Because with out it, faith itself is dead (James 2).
