The Kids in my 'hood ...

Today I got home a little early, and hung out with the kids in the neighborhood outside. Well, it wasn't exactly planned. I was pulling weeds in the front flowerbed and one by one all of the kids who were outside came over to help. I wish I had a before shot, and not just the after shots above -- let me just tell you, most of the weeds were taller than the bushes. I told the kids that it wasn't a fun job, and you may not like it at all, but they all dove right in.

In fact, Jake wanted to pull one really nasty, prickly weed. He saw that we didn't have the right tool outside, so he said, "hold on". A few minutes later he emerged from his house with a sandbox shovel to tackle the spiny invader. It was so cool seeing all of the kids work together on something. They were all great, and took great pride in the front flowerbeds. It is just amazing, AP said it best. "Those kids want to spend time with you so bad they don't care what they are doing, they just care that you'll talk to them and pay attention to them."
