When I was in the 1st grade Michael Dukakis and George Bush were running for president. Our primary school held a "mock" election. Because it was my very first time to vote, I wanted to do things right. So, I asked my grandfather, who always seemed to have all the answers, who I should vote for. He said, "Rachel, we're Texas Democrats." That confused me a little, becuase I didn't know of a "Texas Democrat" running for office. When I asked him what that meant he said, "That means we can vote for whomever we damn well please."
Ahhhhhh ... I get it.
So, in honor of Granddaddy and Super Tuesday I thought I'd pass on a piece of information to you:
In Ohio, if you want to vote for someone in the primary election who is NOT a candidate for the party that you are registered to, (like me) it's no big deal! When you show up at the polling place they will ask you which ballot you want -- Republican/Democrat/Issues Only. Then, you too can "vote for whomever you damn well please".

I didn't know this! I moved here almost 5 years ago and voted in the last presidential primary and figured I was stuck this time around and would have to skip out (I have yet to figure out how to register as an Independent in this state, but this is an even better system since Independents can't vote in the primaries). This is really good news! Thanks, Rachel!
So you're voting for Obama? Just wondering what your reasons are.
see new post -- thanks for asking. you don't have to remain anonymous -- I like having friends who differ in opinion from me! I think it's cool.
