We've been on quite the journey this week. Sometime in the past 5 days Cana decided that being awake is fun. Although, she isn't really sure what to do while she is awake. So, she resorts to kicking her legs and stretching her arms while making hilarious baby noises or screaming just for the fun of it. She can do this for hours. It is the kind of behavior that makes a grown adult want to curl up in the fetal position and cry. We hit the breaking point on Saturday night when she did this from 1AM to 3:30AM.
AP was a walking zombie the next day at work. Determined to not have that happen again, I re- watched Happiest Baby on the Block. If you haven't seen this video and you come in contact with infants in your life, I highly recommend you get you hands on a copy of this very cheesy, but wonderful video. I missed it the first time I watched the video -- SWADDLE THAT KID UP AND PUT THEM IN THE SWING TO SLEEP!
I am a self proclaimed baby gear minimalist, so when a few people from church offered me this gigantic swing, I almost declined the gift. However, they insisted that it saved their sanity. Okay, we'll take it. The last two nights Cana has slept in that swing -- in FOUR HOUR stretches. God bless Wendy and Brian who gave us the swing!!! They are at the top of my thank you note list today. I'm going to stock up on D batteries today. The swing must not run out of batteries. Now, Cana goes to bed at 10 and wakes up at 2:30 -- then back to bed and up to play at 6AM. FANTASTIC. AP and I just might survive.
Now, for the SHOWER. My mom has been here or the past 10 days. This is the ONLY reason I have been able to shower on a regular basis. I loved our bathroom before, but now that showering is a wonderful treat, I regularly thank God for my husband who remodeled that bathroom during my first trimester. All of those times that I walked down two flights of stairs to the basement bathroom to puke at 2AM seem totally worth it. Thank you to my husband and my mom. Not sure how people do this baby stuff alone.

Nice to know we are not alone in this...
We have the carseat to be a wonderful sleeping place for Sofia. She likes to be snuggled up in there and will sleep 4-5 hour stretches (but only in the carseat). So what if she is 12 years old one day and still sleeping in a carseat...just not sure where we will find one that big. Ha ha
We also watched HBOTB...and it definitely came in handy during those early weeks! Our little man got too big too quick for the side-laying position. :o) However, he is STILL being swaddled. It's a beautiful, beautiful thing.
