Tonight at dinner AP and I talked about the highs and lows that we have experienced as new parents. One thing that I miss from pre-child life is the double sleep. Stick with me on this one, it may just change your life. As you read please notice that the correct term is the double sleep. Because, there is only one way to do it.
The double sleep is when you go to sleep and dream about sleeping. To understand the proper double sleep technique you will first have to relate to two familiar feelings. Have you ever fallen asleep thinking about something and then dreamed about it? Like when you fall asleep thinking about cows and dream about being on a farm. And also, have you ever had a day so tiring that you daydream about the blissful moment that your head will hit the pillow and cast you into dreamland? Good, now combine those two things. The double sleep is achieved when you fall asleep and dream about how good it feels to sleep. If you are disciplined in your night time brain activity and practice regularly you can do it almost every night. I swear it is twice as restful as regular sleep where you have crazy dreams. All of those crazy dreams, they don't let your mind rest at all.
However, I can't do the double sleep right now. I would be so deep in sleep that I wouldn't hear Cana in the middle of the night; so I am forced to just regular sleep, and boy those crazy dreams are particularly nuts when all you are used to dreaming about is sleeping. I've dreamed about coworkers becoming race car drivers, cats that tapdance, and funnelcakes that teach algebra. That's disturbing stuff. Who can sleep with all of that going on?
Now, AP thinks that the double sleep is not actually possible. That is because he has never done it.
Go now, and try it before you judge my sanity. I'm off to bed.
