Love Your Neighbor(s)
We live on the perfect "block party street". For years AP and I have appreciated this quiet cul-de-sac, and wished that we knew more of our neighbors more deeply. So, Sunday evening we had them all down to the end of the street for a cook out. Odd addresses brought a side, evens brought dessert or drinks. We put an invitation in everyone's mailbox and had name tags for each person.
Here are some highlights:
Super fun to see the whole street fill up with people -- the last people walked home at about 11PM.
I think we made Karen reconsider moving.
Cana provided Terry with a much needed baby fix, since her 8 grandkids live out of town.
Justin found his long lost twin, Matt who just lives across the street.
That guy in the red shirt had the quote of the night, "I don't even like people and I had a great time."
I'm certain that one of the reasons that Jesus says to love our neighbor is because it is stinkin' fun! The summer is coming to an end faster than you think. Go ahead and have a little street party of your own.

i know you guys have been talking about this sort of thing for awhile. glad you pulled it off! i love the red shirt guy's comment.
paul and I have been talking about doing a party for our street to get to know our neighbors. we want to fix ribs on the grill. mmmmmm....
What a great idea, Rachel! All it takes is one person (or family) to get things like that started. For the past 4 years, there has been a block party on our street...it has become an annual event. Kevin and I had nothing to do with it, though. One other couple (much like you guys) just decided that it needed to happen. It is SO nice to REALLY get to know and love your neighbors!
