Through a series of odd jobs (selling websites, remodeling a lake house, and now building a set for a party) my remarkable husband has done, we have the ability to remake a huge chunk of our home, and I am pumped!
About 3 weeks ago AP tore out our one and only very tiny full bathroom at the top of the stairs. It was so small that when you sat on the toilet, your knees touched the bathtub. AP used that as a handy resting place for the latest issue of Sports Illustrated, but other than that , it was quite annoying. Also, the bathroom tile and bathtub had been painted by previous home owners, but not very well. So the pepto pink of the 1948 tile was peeping through the shocking shiny white tile. To add to the glamour, when you took a shower, your feet took a bath because the plumbing was so old it drained like melting ice. It was time for that to all change. Thankfully, there was a walk in closet in our bedroom that shared a wall with said tiny bathroom. Today, they are all one room.
AP did the demolition and framing with the help of a few good friends. Today, the electrician and plumber are finishing up, and then we're onto drywall by the end of this coming week! Then, onto tile and finish work -- WHO WHOOO!!! Total renovation time will be about 6 weeks. AP is seriously on top of things. Right now, the tub, vanity, and medicine cabinet are all in our garage, just waiting for their new room.
My favorite features of the future bathroom include a separate shower and bath, the HIGH ceiling (AP cathedraled it to the roof line), and the chandelier (I should describe it more as a hanging light) over the bathtub. This will be my new favorite room in the house. Other things that I am excited about include the "river rock" border that will go along with the tile and the super cool huge sink that we found on overstock.com
Showering at friends' houses and the gym will all be worth it when we're done. Oh, and when we're done -- we'll start on the floors up the stairs and in the upstairs bedrooms. It'll be a new house when we're done.
