I adopted her ...

I've been a huge fan of Compassion International for years. However, we've never sponsored a kid ourselves. Really, it's weird.

Today AP left for South Africa. He's delivering about 7000 pictures of people in Cincinnati who are in spiritual poverty. Those crazy prayer warriors in South Africa are going to put our pictures up to remember to pray for us. I freaked out a little when he left this morning. I guess something about being 6 months pregnant makes me want to keep my sweet husband as close and "safe" as possible.

Instead of getting all sad and sappy and fearful, I got online and adopted a kid. If someone in South Africa can support me with prayers -- I can support this little girl with $32.00 a month. Dreaming about our future relationship with her, and already starting to write her letters is a great distraction while my husband is away.

Here she is:
Doreen Kananu Kaliuntu

Birthday: July 17, 2000
Age: 7
Gender: Female
Region: Africa
Country: Kenya
Program: FPFK Kiriene Church Child Development Center

Personal and Family Information:
In her home, Kananu helps by washing clothes. She lives with her mother. Her mother is sometimes employed as a farmer. There are 5 children in the family.

Kananu is not presently attending school. Singing and playing group games are her favorite activities. She also attends church activities regularly.

A few years ago, our friends actually got to meet the kid that they have sponsored for years in Kenya. Compassion arranged the meeting, and they were happy to do it even though the drive was long. When our friends arrived at their adopted child's very tiny hut in the middle of rural Kenya, she greeted them with a bright smile. After a few minutes, she led them inside where she revealed a box with her most treasured possessions. Every thing in the box was familiar to our friends. It was all of their cards and letters sent over the past several years of support. Someday, I want to visit our little Kananu in Kenya, I can't wait.

Have you been waiting to sponsor a child? Or do you have a Compassion Kid of your own? Now is the time to do it! Or, write them that letter that you have been putting off!!!

That's so awesome!!!
Our family sponsors a little girl named Wamboi who also lives in Kenya. It is so much fun to write letters to her and get replies. It is an amazing program.

Funny, I have always been a big fan but have never done it either. I was going to start one at the beginning of the year with amo-ink, but had forgotten. Thanks for the reminder.
